Photo taken March 16, 2007 - We went for a ride through a part of the Ottawa Federal Forest Friday. In a low area, we saw this. It was unusual in that the ice is above ground level, and at that height, had it been formed on water, it would have been up to the road, which was 15 feet or more above it. We looked at it at length, and there was no place where water had been up there. So ... what did this? If you have any ideas, we would love to hear them. We spend a lot of time out in the forest and surrounding areas, and even when we lived elsewhere, neither of us has ever seen anything quite like this. Let us know if you know what caused this unusual ice-fall. (No dams in the area to break and let a water-level drop suddenly such as beaver or whatever.) That was our first thought.
